Acid Reflux In New Borns

Acid reflux in Newborn is quite a common site. It is widely seen in the form of "spitting up". In this condition the food or the contents of the stomach come backwards in the throat, causing spitting or vomiting in the newborns. It can also induce due to coughing and sneezing of the newborn.
It is very difficult to differentiate acid reflux in the newborns. So it is better to consult the pediatrician in the early stage to detect the cause of Acid Reflux.
Acid reflux is caused due to the traveling of the stomach acid backwards in the throat. There is a tube connecting the throat and the stomach and at the top of this tube there is small ring of muscles which covers the top of this tube. This ring opens to release the gas after the meals. But sometimes even the food or the contents from the stomach also pass through it, causing the newborn spit up all what he/she has consumed.

Symptoms of acid reflux in newborn:
Acid reflux can be normal in newborn till the age of 6 to 8 months. But if the symptoms are noticed for a long time it is necessary to consult a doctor. It can be cured with the help of proper advice of doctor and proper medicine.
Sleeping problems, problems while swallowing, loosing weight, continuous crying, eating problems, eating in small quantity, spitting while burping are some of the common symptoms which can be noticed in the newborn. These problems vanish with the growing age but if they still persist, necessary treatment can be started under the guidance of a doctor. But if the problem is not serious it can be cured as your newborn grows up.

Preventing the newborn's acid reflux:
In this delicate stage of your baby's life the parents can take few preventive steps to give their newborn baby a healthy life. The doctor can ask to make some changes in the feeding habits or the lifestyle of your baby, depending on the severity of reflux.

Tips for improving your newborn health are:

Breast feeding: Breast feeding is the best food for the newborn baby. It also reduces the chances of acid reflux. It also builds a bond between the mother and the baby.

Correct position to hold the baby: Hold your baby in the proper position while feeding and hold him upright for around half an hour after feeding. If the baby is awake lay him on his stomach in an angle of 30 degrees.

Proper sleeping position: Make the baby sleep at the same inclination (30 degrees), on its back.

Feed your baby at regular intervals: Feeding the baby with small regular intervals will create less pressure on its digestive system and boost the digesting power.

Making the baby burp: Making baby pass the gas between the meals by holding it in the erect position is also important.
