What is acid reflux disease?
If you are suffering from heartburn for two or more than two days in a week in spite of medicines and diet changes then you must have acid reflux disease.
Acid reflux disease is also called as GERD. GERD is short for gastroesophageal reflux disease (gas-tro-eh-sof-uh-JEE-ul RE-fluks disease).
How it happens?
Acid reflux disease happens when a valve does not close properly. Esophagus is the valve to connect mouth to stomach. lower esophageal sphincter is the valve which opens to food and liquids in the stomach. This valve closes to have acid and food in the stomach. Sometimes this vole does not close properly. This leads to entry of stomach acid to the esophagus again and again. The stomach is happy to get acid than the esophagus. Over and over exposure of stomach acid may lead to damage of esophagus. This condition leads to heartburn to many people. If the heartburn is more than two days even after diet changes then you are suffering from Acid reflux disease or GERD.
What are the acid reflux symptoms ?
Heartburn is the common symptom of acid reflux.
Acid regurgitation is also seen in the patients of GERD.
Chest pain , morning hoarseness and trouble sollowing are seen who have acid reflux
disease without heartburn.
Sometimes you suffer from dry cough and bad breath in GERD.
You may feel Sour taste in the mouth, throat burn or disturbance in sleep. These are also acid reflux symptoms.
What are the acid reflux symptoms in children?
GERD is common in children. It will happen among one year old kids.
You can see repeated vomiting, coughing and other respiratory problems among children.
What are the causes of acid reflux syndromes?
In one of above chapters we discussded how acid reflux disease happens. There are some other causes of GERD that you should know. It can happen because of heaviness, pregnancy, habit of smoking and drinking alcohol. Please avoid these things
Intake of foods like chocolate, citrus fruits, drinks with caffeine, heavy and fried foods, onions and garlic, flavors of mint, spicy foods and tomato used foods.
You can take these things seriously if you want to come out of GERD.
How to treat acid reflux disease?
The best thing to do when you suffer from acid reflux disease is to meet a doctor who is expert in problems of stomach and intestines. Go to a gastroenterologist. He will treat you well. Medicines will give you better feel. Surgery will also do in some cases.
Make some changes in your daily routine. If you use to smoke and drink then stop doing that. In this way you will get relief.
Meet your child's doctor if your child is suffering from the same problem. In infants, a doctor will suggest you burp while feeding or keep the infant in vertical position for half an hour after feeding. Avoid giving food like chocolate, spicy and fatty food, tomato used food to your child after doctor's suggestion.
