Male Birth Control

There are many couples who try to control when they are going to have a child. In almost all cases the responsibility of preventing a birth is considered as the woman’s. While many products are geared to this trend there are some like the condom which are part of a man’s domain. These products fall under the heading of male birth control options.

While there are certain products which a man can use to help his partner or wife choose the time of a pregnancy there are other alternatives which can be found. Some of these options are surgical operations which may or may not be fully reversible. Since the trends of society are changing as well it is best if both women and men take a look at the various male birth control options which are around today.

Male birth control is an option that is seldom thought about. This is because the social standards of society in general place the responsibility of preventing a pregnancy upon a woman. With the advent of sexually transmitted diseases and growing awareness about unplanned births this attitude is changing.

A reflection of this can be seen in the fact that men have the option of wearing condoms when they practice sex. There are other ways which can seem to be somewhat of a disappointment in the fact that the sexual act itself is curtailed before full enjoyment is achieved. While these are two polar opposites to preventing a pregnancy they can work.

As with all forms of male birth control the decision to use these methods falls to the man. If he feels uncomfortable with this route a discussion can take place with the partner. By talking you may discover a comfortable way of establishing this prevention. These are temporary measures which need to be repeated each time sexual intercourse takes place.

There are other forms of male birth control which are more permanent. The most well known one is that of a vasectomy operation. In this operation the sperm ducts or tubes are tied or cut. This procedure prevents the sperm from being inserted into the woman’s body during intercourse.

As this is a final step to preventing pregnancies it is best to take this operation if you are sure that you will not be having any children in the future or if you feel that you are at your full quota of children. Once this status has been determined then you can look for a professional who specializes in this type of male birth control.

When you look at the different ways that a pregnancy can be prevented you will see that there are options for both men and women. All it takes is some frank and personal discussions to decide if male birth control is an option that you will both try. Remember to talk with your doctor to get the full facts for all of the available male birth control options.
