Train Engines

For many of us traveling these days is either a rushed task filled with unknown problems or a long trip which seems to be an unending nightmare. There is another way of traveling which is not that hectic or nightmarish. This type of traveling is done with trains. Today you will find that the train engines are based on electric power and diesel power.

With these different types of train engines you will find that the power which is used to power the trains performs in a manner that is specific to the engines. In the diesel engines the power to the train is provided by the compressed air and the fuel. You can find that the resulting energy from the engine provides the electrical output that is necessary to turn the train wheels.

This energy which is required for the train wheels is powered from a generator. While these are the facts which we know of there are other historical facts behind the evolution of the trains which provides you with an understanding about the way that these engines work.

When the train system was first started the trains were first pulled by a team of horses. Then in 1840 one Richard Trervithick developed the steam engine which would replace the use of horses in pulling the trains. The first steam engine used the burning wood to produce steam which in turn powered the engine. Later the steam engine was replaced by the diesel train engines.

The invention of diesel as a fuel source was bought to light by one Rudolph Diesel. His invention of this fuel source was an accident. The very first diesel train engines began running in 1897. By 1925 you could see more diesel trains running on tracks as compared to the steam engines.

Today while there are diesel train engines working well you will find that electric trains are beginning to their place in some countries. At present the use for diesel train engines is used as it is considered as being more convenient.

The other benefits which can be seen in the use of these train engines is that of less of a need to refuel, the engines can be repaired easily and the emissions from the trains are cleaner for the environment as compared with steam.

The place of train engines has been assured from early in history. From pulling carriages with horses to steam engines puffing their way through the country side. Today you can see many speedy bullet trains seeming to fly by as they too perform the much needed task of taking their passengers to their destinations. The place of train engines seems to assured for as long as man needs a way to travel speedily over the ground.
