Black Diamonds
There are as we know many different diamonds which can be used in jewelry designs. As most of the diamonds which are used in jewelry are the colorless or white diamonds you will seldom find any jewelry which uses colored diamonds. One diamond which is seldom seen and used in jewelry is that of black diamonds. This is probably due to the fact of that these diamonds are rare and few people are interested in buying any jewelry which uses them.
At present most of the diamond mines which extract black diamonds from the earth belong to the De Beers Diamond Company. As you will find very few of these black diamonds on the market, the De Beers Company has decided that the reason for people buying this type of gemstone studded jewelry is the scarcity of the gemstone due to its being rare.
It is possible that the reason that people choose not to buy lots of jewelry with black diamonds in them is because these diamonds are not as attractive as the colorless ones, red, pink, blue or even the champagne diamonds. While diamond companies do keep the number of these diamonds in the market under control, there are some jewelers who have access to well cut pieces of black diamonds.
These diamonds are then placed in jewelry items like black and white diamond earrings, diamond rope necklaces, men’s signet rings, ladies white gold and black diamond rings along with being found in men and women’s designer watches. In these few types of jewelry you will see that the black diamonds have an air of subtle elegance.
There are various ideas about how black diamonds were formed on earth. At present there are two theories about the formation of these diamonds. It is thought that black diamonds may have deposited on earth when meteorites struck the earth. The other theory is that black diamonds are carbon atoms which were squeezed into small crystals. These crystals were in turn forced upwards to the surface of the earth by volcanic eruptions.
Regardless of the manner in which these diamonds were formed you will find that the majority of the world’s black diamonds can be found in Africa. When you have looked at these black diamonds then you can decide if you want to have them in jewelry that you are going to buy or not. This is important as you will need to look for reputed jewelers who will have a tasteful selection of these black diamonds in stock.
