Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease

There are many of us who feel that being in good health is a necessity of life. While this is true there are various times when we may become afflicted by diseases; mild to severe illnesses and sometime life threatening conditions. While medical technology has advanced it is still necessary for the medical condition to be identified as soon as possible. In cases like Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease the condition needs to be treated to cater for two distinct health problems.

In order to understand what Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease is, you should have some background information. The first item to be known is that this disease can be called by the other names. These names are Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD. While this health condition can be treated by itself the two possible conditions can also be treated to cure this disease.

Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease is sometimes seen as a mix of Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis. In Chronic Bronchitis the airways which carry air to the lungs has become inflamed. This causes a lot of mucus to be produced in the air passageways. This excess amount of mucus causes the airways to become blocked and breathing more difficult.

In Emphysema the air sacs become damaged and they lose their elastic shape ability. This loss means that less air circulates in and out of the lungs. This condition causes a person to feel short of breath.

These are the main contributors towards a person getting Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease. However there is another culprit which can make this lung disease even worse. This factor is that of smoking. Additionally you can get COPD by breathing in second hand smoke, dust, air pollution, and also from chemical fumes.

Once you have contracted Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease you will come to realize that this disease can never be cured. The symptoms of this disease in general don’t begin to appear for quite a long time. In general you will find that sometimes individuals who are in their 60s and older have become the victims of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease.

Current medical studies have revealed that the symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease are a shortness of breath which becomes worse when you are exercising, a chronic – long lasting – cough; mucus which comes up when you are coughing. As time passes you will find ordinary tasks can become harder to accomplish.

In order to prevent Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease from taking over your life you should see about ways to stop smoking. Ask your doctor for help and advice so that you don’t become another statistic in the fight against Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease.
