Healthy Lungs

There are many of us who feel that having healthy lungs is a vital aspect to being in good health. While this is true there are times when we will become infected by different lung diseases. These will range from the mild reactions to that of the severe form. Sometimes these conditions will be life threatening.

Even though medical technology has advanced you will find that is still necessary for your doctor to examine you fully. It is only after the results of the tests will your medical condition to be identified. This is necessary in cases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or small cell lung disease.

In order to understand how your lungs work you should have some background information. You will then be able to see the difference in healthy lungs and that of diseased lungs. In this tour you will only see a small section of the lungs functions.

To know more about the inner workings of healthy lungs you can look for more information from your doctor, the various medical encyclopedias, the internet and other sources. There is one fact that you should keep in mind when you are doing your research and this is that any knowledge that you find should be ones that you understand.

The first step we will look at is where the lungs are situated. Since healthy lungs perform one of the most important tasks of our lives these organs are placed near the heart. This placement has two uses. The first use is that fresh blood from the heart has less of a distance to travel in order to be filled with fresh oxygen from the lungs. The other reason which is not one that is really thought of is that the lungs form a protective barrier for the heart.

When lungs are in a healthy condition they will be capable of delivering fresh oxygen into the fresh blood so that the organs in the body get replenished with both good blood and clean oxygen. Besides supplying the body with oxygen, healthy lungs are capable of doing other work. This work is of the non-respiratory function.

To provide you with an idea of these functions you can think about how the body reacts when a person decompresses their lungs as they come to the surface from scuba diving. As the diver slowly surfaces their healthy lungs begin the process of breaking down and filtering the gas micro bubbles which form in the veins due to the changes of water pressure that you will experience.

Another task that is performed by healthy lungs is that of various blood clots which form in the veins is broken and then filtered out of the blood. This is just a brief look at the functions that healthy lungs perform.
