Lung Capacity

The lung capacity of a person is important to see as this can help you understand the difference between a healthy person’s lung condition and that of a person who is sick. In the case of a person who is sick the lungs may be distended or limp and out of shape. Besides these reasons for looking at a person’s lung capacity you will find that where a person lives can also influence the capacity of the lungs.

Now unless you are severely ill there is no need to think of a small lung capacity as being a bad thing. As many studies show the place where you will and the atmosphere of your environment are the main reasons why a person may have large sized lungs or small sized lungs.

While knowing the lung capacity of a person can be important from certain medical points of view there are other reasons for a person to be looking at the capacity of the lungs. These reasons can be linked to the way that a person lives. For instance you will find that people who smoke have a small lung capacity than that of non-smokers. Also people who live in higher altitudes are known to have larger sized lungs.

On the other hand the person who lives near the sea will only have small sized lungs. As you see from this information the lung capacity of a person will have many influencing factors. The other factors which need to be taken into account when you are looking at a person’s lung capacity is that of their sex, height, age, level of activity and their weight.

Once you have these factors seen to you may want to take appropriate steps to get your lung capacity into what is considered as the correct lung weight – read lung capacity here – this is known to be 5.8 liters.

The steps that you can take are exercising and walking every day. Changing your diet to a healthy one – not full of fats, fast foods and sweet calorie laden foods – you may even want to consider quitting smoking – this step is only if you are a smoker – have your lung capacity checked out by a pulmonologist.

By seeing to all of these steps you can make sure that you are within what is accepted as the right lung capacity. These steps that you are embarked on will also provide you with the building blocks for a healthy future.
